WAX MANNEQUIN HEAD
w/individually hand-punched human hair and glass eyes
This figure (and others for sale by this owner) were created by
Gems of London, England
in the 1950s/1960s. The Gems of London company was founded in 1885 and is still in operation today.
Originally from the famous
“Christus Gardens” Biblical diorama attraction in Gatlinburg, Tennessee
(closed in 2008) these heads were purchased by
Paul and Jan Crouch of the Trinity Broadcasting Networ
k for diorama display at
The Holy Land Experience in Orlando, FL.
Following their deaths, Holy Land Experience is now restructuring and desires to “give them a good home” for these beautiful and inspirational figures.
A single head or full figure from this collection is amazing, but with two or more the effect is just astounding.
All ten heads in this collection are life-sized, and of various ethnic looks. Most are adults, but there are a few youth and children: Andrew, Bartholomew, Camel Rider, James the Elder, Jesus, John, Matthew, Peter, Philip, and Simon, for example.
Wonderful vintage and very rare heads. As you can see the head does show signs of age. The hair is tangled and unbrushed. (I will leave that to its new owner ). The eyes are very realistic... I'm not sure if they're glass or a painted synthetic material. There may be a small chip in the wax sculpture. I did a close up to show eyes (please see photos ).
Overall it's a wonderful wax mannequin sculpture - It does show wear and age - Please see all photos.
