    Description

Rare, Vintage deep indigo blue original Victoria Stone (or Imori Stone) slice of a boule.  This slab is from the middle top half of the boule and shows great possibility of patterns.  Chatoyant fans reach out with different shades of the blue adding to the look.  The piece is solid but is a partial of a whole boule (a whole boule is about the size of a solo cup) and has excellent cabochon potentials.   The original coating has been removed on the outer edge of the piece as seen in the pictures.  This piece is waiting for that collector of fine stone or an artist's finishing touches to make into some incredible cabochons.
This piece weighs 58.4 grams (292.0 carats), measuring 77 mm x 45 mm x 7.95 mm (3 inches by 2 inches by 1/4 inch).   Measurements are approximate and are measured on the longest and widest edges; thickness is measured in the center.   The Mohs Scale of hardness for Victoria Stone is 6.
Victoria Stone (some call it Imori Stone) was created in Japan by Dr. Imori and family from the 1960's to 1990's.  The stone is man-made in a sense due to Dr. Imori had a process known only to his family of mixing minerals in a lengthy process to render this gem, similar to Nephrite Jade.  Therefore, the stone is a laboratory produced stone from natural raw materials, which include feldspar, quartz, magnesite, calcite, fluorspar and others.  A total of seven different minerals combined under high pressure and temperature.  The cooling process is the key to producing the 'fan' patterns.  The unfortunate result is Dr. Imori passed away and his son continued the process until the 1990's when the production shut down.  Others have tried to recreate the process but have not been able to duplicate the it so the only available Victoria stone is what is left in old collections and is non-replenishable - so, when it's gone, there is no more.
Natural stones almost always contain surface impurities like fissures, vugs, fractures (healed or fresh). We try to note if there are any surface features you should be aware of and won't knowingly sell a stone without disclosing in the description of such.  We try to list pictures showing all surface features or post information if there are surface features you should be aware of.
Please inspect your stones prior to your use to avoid unexpected breaks later.  It breaks my heart to see my husband test a slab by putting pressure to a suspected weak spot and sometimes snaps a slab (if it has a weak spot), but, if you don't test it, half way through your cabochon, it could naturally split on you.  Better to remove all doubt before starting.
We don't alter the colors in our photographs, though digital photo colors vary between cameras and depending on the lighting where the photos are taken so please view all photos before purchasing. Naturally lighted photos will be provided whenever possible, but some photos are taken indoors.  Photos of this piece were taken indoors.  My apologies for any glare on any of the photos and the flash has a tendency to wash the colors, therefore, some photos may be with or without flash trying to capture the most lifelike appearance.
