This sale is for 39.5 grams (almost 200 carats) of legitimate Landers Turquoise scrap slabs. It is super hard and perfect. No imperfections. Blue. White. Brown. Brown is the most rare.
This came from the factories of (Bell Trading Post) Sunbell. It was already grouped together by employees of one of the factories, in one of the “Sunbell” tagged- buckets in a sack. Our chain of custody and command goes back to the Michelsons, who bought it for the Bell company from the mine. This is probably the only time I will ever do this. I don’t sell Landers. I keep it. This sale is for 39.5 grams or just under 200 carats of stabilized, super hard, rough Landers Turquoise scrap. There is one very large nugget, the rest is thinner slabs that need to be backed.
The Lander Blue Turquoise mine was a small mine that was located in Lander County, Nevada between Battle Mountain and Tenabo. This small mine produced some of the finest natural Spiderweb Turquoise to ever come out of the ground in the United States as well as around the world. Lander Blue Spiderweb Turquoise Cabochons bring the highest price of any Turquoise cabochons in the world as far as I know. Lander Blue Turquoise cabs can bring as much as 0 to 0 per carat. Lander Blue was one of the few mines in the world that produced Turquoise that was almost gel like or has a semi translucent glassy quality to it. Many people collect the finest web from the Lander Blue Turquoise mine. This lot gives a wonderful cross cut peek at the type of material Landers turned out.
Obviously even back in the days when Bell Trading Post and Maisel Indian Trading Post were buying Landers, it was already tremendously in demand! Which explains why it was saved separately by Bell/Sunbell. This comes from the scrap of our collection, you can read about our chain of custody below. 1932-2020 Turquoise Kings chain of custody and command timeline:
Our provenance and chain of custody is currently being published and is easy to find under our company name. Turquoise Kings has exclusive possession to what we believe to be the largest known collection in the world  of turquoise scrap from the well-known Rt 66 Indian Trading posts of the 1930s to the 1970s. This chain of custody is imperative to trace: the mines that these companies worked with are easily and historically established, and so it lends authority to our mine identification. After Fred Harvey alone, Jack Michelson and Maurice Maisel are the giants who built the modern Native American jewelry and souvenir industry. Some names below are not revealed to protect privacy. This is a timeline that follows the custody of this scrap from 1932 in the original Bell Trading Post, until we purchased it all from the estate of that family that owned Bell/Sunbell.
• 1939: Maurice Maisel founds his Indian Trading Post, always saving rare turquoise scraps from Native artists.
• 1932: Jack Michelson founds the famous Bell Trading Post, also saving decades of factory turquoise scraps.
• Maurice Maisel employees sort scrap various ways, bagging and tagging some high grade, buried in buckets.
• Bell employees mix scraps of 30s-40s with jewelry copper bits. Our experts dated our Bell scraps w/hallmarks!
• 1968: Michelson family/Bell Trading Post famously bought out Maisel. Some scrap was utilized, some saved.
• Sunbell became the brainchild of Jacquelyn Michelson. Jacquelyn and her siblings take the company global.
• 1970 on: Corinthian jewelry from the Sunbell scrap collection becomes HUGE as combined scraps were cut.
• After 1980: the Michelson family retired the Sunbell Company. The turquoise scraps disappeared into history.
• 2017: We heard New Mexico stories about scrap buckets from the Route 66 original Indian Trading Posts.
• 2018: Our family discovers a way to the family that purchased the collection, who graciously sell some scraps.
• 2020: Our family is asked indirectly through a mutual friend to purchase the entire, verified scrap collection.
• 2020: After the buy out, some scrap buckets were found to have sorted material buried in bags, some tagged.
• 2020: All identified mines/buckets had proper provenance leading to that conclusion in mine identification.
• Stabilized material in this scrap collection that was stabilized is by Maurice Maisel, LW Hardy, or the Michelson family of Bell/Sunbell.
• Some natural and/or high grade material was found after the final purchase, buried in loose buckets, bagged, tagged, identified.
• All material was purchased in the first person from the Michelson/Bell/Sunbell legal estate.
