South African Mahogany Wood Abstract Sculpture "Der Philosoph" by A. Njawite

An abstract sculpture in African mahogany, near the root level, because one can see that at the bottom there are the beginnings of roots. These areas are not dyed. It may look a bit like these parts are damaged, but they are not. There are part of the sculpture, and for some reason the artist did not diet all the way to the bottom. The artist signature is carved into the front. On the bottom is a small tag with the words "Der Philosoph", which I am assuming translates into "the philosopher". A beautiful piece, I do not know exactly how old it is, it may be vintage, as early as mid-century. I tried to find out more about sculptors and South Africa in general, but my knowledge in this area is not great, and no more information came with this piece. Measurements are in item specifics. Weighs just over 4 lb.
