Marigold Carnival Glass Lettered Toothpick Holder
Made by the Joe St. Clair Glass Co., Elwood, Indiana
Approximate Dimensions: 2.5" (High), 2" (D), 2" Base Diameter
This really nice marigold carnival glass toothpick holder features the pattern "Wreathed Cherry" made by the Joe St. Clair Glass Company of Elwood, Indiana. It was made as a souvenir for the 1970 meeting of the Society of Carnival Glass Collectors, founded by
O. Joe Olson
who was, among other things, a reporter for the
Kansas City Star
. The SCGC is the first club organized for carnival glass collectors. Wreathed Cherry is a pattern first made by the Dugan Glass Company in the early 1900s.
This is a very difficult item to find and it is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. The iridescence is rich and well-applied, the pattern is very well articulated. A really great piece of history!
Lettering on Exterior of Base:
"ORIGINAL CARNIVAL SOCIETY"
"SCGC" (Socity of Carnival Glass Collectors)
1964-1970
