    Description

A special slab of wonderful petrified wood from Saddle Mountain  in Washington State.
Specimens from this area of Eastern Washington date to the Miocene epoch when a series of lava flows from volcanos buried forests and swamps.  When conditions were right, some of these forests and swamps were buried and preserved by silica dissolved from volcanic ash and the basalts.  Much of the wood is various types of conifers, although there are areas that show more diversity and contain hardwoods.
This is a nice example with some pretty coloration and pattern
2 1/2 inches wide at the center x 2 1/8 inches high at the center and 4.5 mm in thickness
Photographed outside wet and dry under natural light conditions.  Not polished
From a rock hounds 60 year collection of material
