    Description

This is  very unique Doorbell and Lever combinations made by Sargent. This particular bell and lever has not been refinished and retains its original finish in a new like condition
    except
for the bell cover that shows its 120 year old patina. There is no noticeable wear on the bell so if used at all it was very minimal. This bell is a double strike bell where most Sargent bells are single strike. The bell strikes once as the lever is pulled and again as it is released. The last patent date is 1889 making it one of their last lever operated bells. Sargent doorbells are probably the best lever type bells as far as reliability and function. The bell is not as loud as their single strike bells but you do get two strikes.
The lever is mounted on the center line of the bell and the mounting tabs are horizontal as opposed to vertical on most bells.
The 4 3/4" diameter bell is made of brass and nickel plated with one of their more popular designs. The back plate is made of cast iron. The "Blue Bird" lever is also made by Sargent and is one of their most attractive designs. The lever is made of brass and has a bronzed finish applied. The levers look nice polished but did not come that way and the bronzed finish is more durable. The lever measures about 2 1/2" by 6" and should fit a door a door up to 2 1/4" thick
    .
If you want one of the best lever type doorbells that is both very original and reliable you may want to consider this bell.
